Why buy Mitchell Timepieces?
First and foremost, I want this to be a tribute to the men and women I served with. Sure I am American so that to me means United States Air Force, but it represents a bigger picture, men and women that stand up and say “Yes I will risk my life for a greater cause.” I am honoring them whether they are in Phoenix, Arizona or Sidney Australia.
What makes me different? I think of the song “Something from Nothing” by the Foo Fighters (Dave please don’t sue me for that one). Mitchell Timepieces didn’t start because someone provided me with a business loan, or grant, I started designing watches and buying parts until I had a watch that I thought was something unique and desirable. Honestly, when I came up with the Hercules I had my doubts, but ultimately was able to produce a unique piece.
I know Mitchell Timepieces isn’t for everyone, that’s why I do things the way I do. I am not trying to compete with the other Microbrands. Money is not my motivation, I just really enjoy doing this, but that being said, I won’t be giving watches away in order to sell them. I only do discounts for veterans.
Ok, the watch itself. I know I’m not reinventing watches. Fact is there isn’t much that hasn’t been done. I do try to bring in brand characteristics. The B2 for example. If you look at the B2, at a glance it has a simple “field flavor” to it. But, if you take a closer look you see that's not a triangle like other pilots have, it's a B2. As you roll around the dial you see a B at 2 o’clock (I thought it was clever). When you look at the case you see a vertical coin edge and simple lines, giving it a simple nod to the all A11s. What does that have to do with the B2? The 509th Bomb Wing has an impressive history. The 509th ended WWII when the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb Hiroshima. So now it all comes together!
